OUGD301 Evaluation.

Overall I’m quite genuinely impressed with the work I have been producing over the past 12 weeks for this module. Now part of the third year, you can see the quality and the effort that has been put in to the work has progressed throughout the year group, directing your own briefs has allowed to produce work that you may not have chance for, know what you really enjoy and what to continue with in the future. I feel my statement as for the most part stands, and will continue through into the next module and FMP. Only issue would be the definition of infographics and my use of them in this module, more pictograms than information graphics. It is still something I want to experiment with, but I feel I will need more guidance in the next few months, possible collaborative?  Although I have enjoyed producing my own work, I don’t think the quantity is there for the time I had available. This is largely down to time-management. I think with experience with Identity day briefs (for what briefs were completed) and closer to the deadline, the quantity and quality of work has been really good, just only if I was as organized as this throughout the entire module. Time plans where in place were useful and the effective use of time showed, but not consistently carried out throughout the module.

Print as a medium has become so much more important in my practice, becoming more of a key element into designs and applying different ideas to different stocks, for different clients and experimenting with different effects. Visits from agencies and designers including the Generation Press talk turn more ideas into reality and are a real inspiration for work. Digital print has turned into more of a home over the past 12 weeks for different briefs, and experimenting with foils for the first time and re-evaluating with screen-printing again adds to my practice and directs what can be produced with certain ideas. Aswell as the use of the laser cutter, these facilities will be crucial in my practice over the coming months for new ventures.

Devoting certain amounts time to briefs is essential next module, and not how I organized myself this module for briefs. Initially taking on 2-3 briefs at the same time from the start left bad organization and really just treading water and not progressing with any particular piece of work, next module I will have a clear structure and produce work in a more logical order to stay organized with work, but still allowing for live briefs and other commitments. This also goes for my blog content, updating information at the end of each brief will allow me to stay much more on top of work.

From production of boards for the module hand-in, the quality I feel has improved with what work is displayed, both actual work and they way it is portrayed. From simple useful tips from photography gained, work is much stronger and professional, with the potential for portfolio pieces.
